So, you have decided to get a tattoo. Tattoo artists are used to having to turn away unruly customers, or some artist may not do their best work if you are not on your best behavior. What is expected of you?
Do not try to bargain with the artist. If you really want this on your body, price should not be an issue. But, if you feel like the artist is overcharging you, feel free to ask if they have payment plans, or decline the work and ask another artist. Haggling is considered insulting to the artist. Tip! Tattoo artist do not make an hourly wage and receive a small percentage of the money they get for their work. They rely on tips to make a living. 10 % is the minimum 15 to 25% is the standard. Do not go into the tattoo parlor under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Most artists will not work on you if you are intoxicated, because alcohol increases bleeding.
Ask permission to have someone go with you into the work area. Most artists do not mind, but ask first, some do not allow it at all. It is especially important to ask first if your guest will be taking photos. Some artists do not like to be photographed, and virtually none like flash photography. Do not start screaming when the pain starts.
It may hurt, but it is time to man up. If you are wincing and moving around your tattoo is not going to be its best. If your doing that and crying the tattoo artist is going to hate you. Be polite. If you are getting a tattoo to piss off your parents, that fine. But, that is no reason to take your bad attitude into the tattoo parlor. Be polite, say your pleases and thank yous and you will have a much better experience.
